Group B (O:4)¶
Serovars in this group share the O:4 somatic antigen. Group B contains some of the most clinically significant serovars, including S. Typhimurium.
| Serovar | Antigenic Formula | Primary Animal Reservoir |
|---|---|---|

Serovar Brandenburg was found in different animal species (pigs, turkey, cattle, horse, deer and sheep. |
| S. Bredeney | 1,4,12,27:l,v:1,7 |
Serovar Bredeney appeared to be associated with poultry, at least in Ireland it was associated with chicken; and in the US with turkey. |
| S. Chester | 1,4,[5],12:e,h:e,n,x |
There is not clear evidence of the animal reservoir for this serovar, although serovar Chester has been found in various animals, including turkeys... |
| S. Coeln | 1,4,[5],12:y:1,2 |
Serovar Coeln has been isolated in high frequency (21.8%) in wild boars in Italy. |
| S. Derby | 1,4,[5],12:f,g:[1,2] |
The most common reservoir for serovar Derby is swine. |
| S. Haifa | 1,4,[5],12:z10:1,2 |

Poultry, including chickens and turkeys, are the main reservoirs for serovar Heidelberg. |
| S. I 4,[5],12:b:- | 1,4,[5],12:b:- |
Chicken may be the primary reservoir of serovar I 4,[5],12:b:-; however, this serovar has also been isolated from horses |
| S. I 4,[5],12:i:- | 1,4,[5],12:i:- |
Chicken and swine are the major animal reservoirs of this serovar. |
| S. Indiana | 1,4,12:z:1,7 |
The most common reservoir for serovar Indiana is retail chicken, but it was also found in cattle, turkey, duck, sheep and swine |
| S. Kiambu | 1,4,12:z:1,5 |
The reservoir for serovar Kiambu remains unknown, but chickens and cattle may be potential hosts. |
| S. Paratyphi B | 1,4,[5],12:b:1,2 |
Serovar Paratyphi B is almost exclusively host restricted to humans and closely related anthropoids. |
| S. Reading | 1,4,[5],12:e,h:1,5 |
Poultry and swine are the implicated reservoirs for serovar Reading, and it has been the cause of death in turkey poults. |
| S. Saintpaul | 1,4,[5],12:e,h:1,2 |
Unknown, but turkey and swine are likely to be reservoirs for serovar Saintpaul. |
